The Food Service Team at CBSD is proud to serve our student's breakfast and lunch each day. Our students have daily selections of delicious entrées, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and milk. At the Hill and High School Campus, students also have the Eat Right Café featuring freshly made salads and wraps.
Every student is encouraged to eat breakfast and lunch daily to promote a healthy lifestyle and a strong learning experience. Well-nourished students perform better in class and have better grades. We welcome suggestions and feedback to ensure our menus meet our students’ needs.
Payment Options for Snacks & Extras
The Columbia Borough School District participates in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP), which allows all students to receive one free breakfast and lunch daily. Students may choose to purchase an extra entrée, snack, or beverage that is not included in the CEP meal program. The CBSD Food Service Department provides several options for parents to provide their children with money if they choose to purchase extras.
Option 1: Parents/guardians may send a check or cash to school with their child. If choosing this option, place funds in a sealed envelope with the child’s name, grade, and classroom teacher’s name. This helps our food service staff enter the funds into the child’s account.
Option 2: Parents/guardians may create an account, use our online payment system, School Café, and place funds electronically into their child’s meal account. Please note that account balances can take 24 to 48 hours to reflect a payment. The payment subtotal should be between $0.01 and $100. School Café charges a$1.95 convenience fee on all online food service payments whether you are paying with a credit or debit card.
Option 3: Cash can be given to students who attend the Hill Campus at the time of purchase. The cashier will ask if the student wants their change back or if they would like the change put into their meal account.
Funds left in a student’s meal account will roll over into the following school year. For graduating seniors, parents/guardians will need to complete an Account Refund Application Form.
DIETARY NEEDS
The Columbia Borough Food Service Department (CBFSD) is here to help you with your child’s dietary needs. Our goal is to provide great service along with making each child’s dining experience unique. For those children that require some dietary alterations to the school meal program, there are steps parents must take before changes to the meal program can occur. If your child has a dietary need, the CBFSD will need the parents and or guardians to either complete a Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service form or provide a detailed medical note from your child’s medical provider.
When submitting your medical provider’s note or completing the Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service form, the written medical statement must include:
An explanation of how the child’s physical or mental impairment restricts the child’s diet.
An explanation of what must be done to accommodate the child.
The food(s) to be omitted and recommended alternatives, if appropriate.
MEDICAL PLAN OF CARE Q&A
If you have already submitted a medical form during the previous school year and your child has no dietary changes, you do not need to complete a Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service form or provide a note from your child’s medical provider for the upcoming school year.
If you have already submitted a medical form during the school year and your child has an additional dietary need or a change has occurred, you will need to complete a new Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service form or provide an updated note from your child’s medical provider for the current school year.
What if my child is no longer allergic to tree nuts/peanuts? How do I get my child’s dietary restriction changed? In the case of an allergy that is life threatening, the Food Service Department requires parents to submit new paperwork via the child’s medical provider indicating any change.
